Long time, haven’t been visiting 2c much but today is Memorial Day and I’m back to share a greeting. Yesterday was the opening of the Beach Club. (remember last year?) Em and I went down for the bonfire and had a barbeque with the fancy-pant denizens of Fairfield County. I was incredibly bored since I’m not filthy rich and don’t play golf. (I’ve taken up Disc Golf, but that’s a different story) While Em sat around the fire with her friends from school, I got stiff drinks from the bar, ending with three fingers of Tequila. I was rocked when I got home and passed out before 11.

Woke up today, went to the Memorial Day Parade in town. I feel lucky to live in a colorful small community with the resources to enjoy life. I wouldn’t be just if I weren’t thankful for the freedom we enjoy in our town & country.

After the parade, the three of us each found a cool spot and took long naps. Three hours later, I took the dog to a local disc golf course and played through with some others. Lana will chase each drive and stand waiting over the disc. I’ve got her so she want’s it… chases it.. but won’t touch the disc. So cool! She fell into a mud pit that was much deeper than her body and looked quite scared. The guys I was playing through with thought I should have jumped in to save her… but I just stood laughing and encouraged the dog to struggle toward the edge, where she clamboured out.

Memorial Day is the American holiday when we honor the men and women who have fought and died for our freedom, we salute our public servants and many towns host parades that include veteran soldiers, local police and fire departments, and organizations of all sorts. Today is like American Day and is one of our nation’s most important holidays. Memorial Day brings a mix of Patriotism, respect and sadness.

After the parades, friends and families unite for the day off in the sun, a meal and general enjoyment of the holiday that also marks the beginning of summer. Today, the weather, was no less than perfect.

I worked hard all week and was ready to for some relaxation and socializing come Friday. What I couldn’t accomplish on Friday night I made up for Saturday returning home sometime Sunday morning. I slept a few hours and was out of the house before 10am; shopping, cleaning, eating and a long walk in the woods with Lana before heading over to the Beach Club for Opening Night.

Our beach club is seasonal and only open from Memorial Day to Labor Day; the holidays that mark the beginning and end of summer. Every year, opening night is celebrated with a cookout that includes a caricature sketch artist and games for the kids and a huge bonfire enjoyed by all.
I’m happy to share these pictures of the evening with you all. It was nice to be with my family to enjoy the beautiful weather on the eve of Memorial Day. I always love the bonfire and had a hard time choosing just a few images to share.
