The Last Best Place – Montana

Hey,

I’m at our house in Montana. Here are a few pics so you can see our front yard.

There are many wild animals here like, bear, elk, mountain lions, bighorn sheep and bald eagles. I am very much at home.

I have been traveling and have been to California, Nevada and now Montana. I like it much better in the West. Nadiana, this is not what it looks like in No. Cal. but you might get a taste of this if Paul takes you out to Grass Valley or just beyond the Sierra Nevada mountains. I am about 10 hours drive from there.

Today will be very hot and I will spend the day floating the river. We have many different boats to take, but my favorite is a simple inner tube. (You know, like a big truck tire… you just sit on and float… get suntan and enjoy the wildlife along the river.

In the boats you must row and do something… but in the tube there isn’t a care in the world….uh… except when your tube is floating straight toward a rattle snake or other weird and thrilling animal along the side. While we were floating the other day a rattle snake went swimming past. I thought it was odd, but I guess it needed to get to the other side of the river.

It is very hot here but not like in SE Asia. Here it is 100º but it is a dry heat. The danger of fire is high because it does not rain here. You can see in the picture of our front yard and the one with the moon in it, that there is a lot of grass that easily can burn. Even riding horses can be dangerous if the horses metal shoes kick against a rock and ignite the brush.

We have many head of  cattle on our property. I like the weather, the people, the outdoors and the beautiful setting of mountains all around me. I wonder if you would like it but then… I don’t care because I like being here where there are NO people. lol.

Of course I will invite you both to visit me some year in the future. One cannot help but to love the wonderful country of America. It is like few places on earth. Very nice.

love to the world from a place where few live and few will ever come to visit., thankfully.

Looks nice Kim! Hope you’ll have Nadiana and me up sometime.

That’s not the old Ted Kaczynski spread is it? I heard it was going cheap. ;-)

Actually Ted’s place is in a small town called Lincoln, which backs up to the Bob Marshall Wilderness: “Here is one of the most completely preserved mountain ecosystems in the world, the kind of wilderness most people can only imagine: rugged peaks, alpine lakes, cascading waterfalls, grassy meadows embellished with shimmering streams, a towering coniferous forest, and big river valleys.”

It’s awesomely beautiful there.
