Cyclone Nargis, Myanmar – Burma

Wow! I was reading about the awesome Cyclone that hit Burma a few days ago.

The death toll from the tropical cyclone that slammed into Myanmar three days ago rose to 10,000…

from this Bloomberg post.

It seems to take a Natural Disaster to raise awareness of the state of affairs sometimes. Apparently Burma isn’t all the great of a place to live, at least Politically and economically. Our Thai tour guide had a few comments as we touched into Burma a few times on our trip. Anyway, I am wondering about your perspective being so close…. in proximity there in Malaysia. How far away is it? Did it rain at your house? UNOSAT released a layer for Google Earth that’s worth checking out. screenshot: Nargis.jpg

In unrelated news I noticed some of the cars my government drives while the cost of fuel is sky-rocketing out of sight. We’re so doomed. I wonder what our next President is going to do to get US out of the death-spiral our economy is in.

I feel for the people suffering loss and hardship. Although I was standing on the street during the Loma Prieta earthquake, I’ve never experienced anything like cyclone brought destruction. For those far from happiness, I take a moment of silence.
